I was going through my old notebooks where I write my insights, reflections, talks given by our leaders in the community, or whatever I think would be nice to jot in. As I browsed through, I saw this short talk on "Characteristics of a Child in God's Perspective" that was given by my former pre-school teacher, Mrs. Sharon Guerra (Directress of Fun to Learn Kinder Center, Canlanipa, Surigao City). The talk was given before the parent-teacher meeting started (for those who are wondering, what was I doing in a parent-teacher meeting in the first place?I mentioned on the description of this blog, I had a child at age 18, now he's 6 years old, attending gradeschool). Here's an excerpt from the talk and my insights:
In God's perspective, kids are:
Physically:
1. Dependent
Kids rely on us adults on some things because they know that they can't do certain things without our assistance.
2. Always Hungry
Kids love to eat. They need to eat in order to grow.
3. Playful
Kids are naturally born energetic. Well, we adults are but they have this energy that we just can't keep up at times. I'm a witness to that with my son, I really don't know where he gets it, he just can't stay in one place.
Mentally:
1. Teachable
Kids are very teachable. That's why we adults should be careful on what we say or do because kids are quick in observing and learning.
2. Imaginative/Ingenious
Every kid has this talent. When you give them a piece of paper and a box of crayons, in just a few minutes, voila, you see colorful scribbles. But those colorful scribbles have a story attached to it. Just let them explain. Or give them something to play with..one moment they're playing with a airplane toy, next thing it's a telephone? Don't ask me.
3. Simple
Simplicity is in every kid's heart. It's only us adults who make their lives complicated. Hehe. But it's okey, we love to dress them up, etc. esp. with those who have daughters. They're just so adorable. I have no problem with my son, he just likes it plain and simple. He prefers to go to the mall with just a t-shirt, a pair of shorts and slippers. But of course mommy wants him to be "maporma" at times. Hehe
Emotionally:
1. Unstable emotion
One minute they're all happy, next minute they're on the floor crying out loud for something I really don't know. Well, kids have these mood swings (which we adults do also), it's just they sometimes can't express what they want from us or sometimes because we just don't listen to them.
2. Pure Honesty, a.k.a Tackless
I've always had these tackless encounters. "Mommy, you look ugly with your dress." Well, fine, they're just too honest. But they make good suggestions you know =)
3. Forgiving
Observe kids when you scold them. Even when they get a few spanking, they never hold grudges. They would be the one who would come to you first depsite of the fact you hurt them.
4. Fearful
Kids get easily scared. It's normal really. But when they're fearful of us adults, esp. to parents, it's a show of respect.
Socially and Spiritually
(As Christians, we believe that when we are with people, we are with God)
1. Humble
Kids don't like the fuss.
2. Innocent
Kids are naturally pure at heart. They're angels on earth. That's why it's important that we take care of them esp. on what we teach them.
3. Simple Faith
Kids easily trust and they're faith just amazes you. I'm always inspired whenever you hear them say "It's okey mommy, Papa Jesus is there for me." Simple faith.
